Social & Economic Justice
At the SCBA we partner with The Joint Public Issues Team working together on justice and political issues.
The team are always keen to listen to the experiences of churches and the communities they serve, especially when these experiences resonate with one of the hopes of a better world JPIT’s work revolves around.
These hopes are:
-
A just economy that enables the flourishing of all life
-
A planet where the environment is renewed
-
A society where the poorest and most marginalised are at the centre
-
A society that welcomes the stranger
-
A world which actively works for peace
-
A politics characterised by listening, kindness and truthfulness
This last hope is particularly relevant to listening. If we hope to see politics assume a posture of listening, kindness and truthfulness, we need to lead by example and ensure that our churches also assume such a posture.

Cost of Living Crisis
In the first film series we will see 2022-2023 Baptist Union President Rev Hayley Young exploring ‘Can the church really make a difference in the cost of living crisis?’.
We’ll hear from individuals, organisations and groups across the country who are supporting those experiencing the challenges of the cost of living crisis as well as those living with it.
The films include stories sharing the difficult reality of life in the UK. It will challenge you to listen to the Spirit on how the Church can respond to the things we hear and see in not only these videos but in our day to day lives.
There is also additional material which provides a deeper dive into the questions asked by those featured in the films as well as further questions to be discussed either individuals or as groups but are there to challenge our way of thinking.
