Equipping 18-30 Year Olds to lead with Confidence and Humility in God's Church

Equip Image

Is this for me?

EQUIP is designed for young adults, who have a heart to grow in faith, and a desire to see the Kingdom come in the world around them by exercising leadership in a church, in their place of work or in their own down time.

You might be not long out of school, you might be in a job, you might have a family .....

But if you're 18-30, if you're hungry to see more of the difference that Jesus can make in our churches and world. If you want to learn some new skills along the way, and if you want to do all that with a group of like-minded people, then this is absolutely for you!

The 3 Key Strands

Identity - Growing in our awareness of who Jesus is and what it means for our leadership to be Christ-centred.
Skills - Exploring different leadership styles and working through what reflective leadership looks like in different situations.
Community - Growing in relationship with each other, building friendships and developing supportive networks that will sustain us all in ministry.

What Should I Expect?

EQUIP is a 2-year course that will run from September 2021 to September 2023 and will include:
  • 3 weekend residentials at Regents Park College in the September of each year. The first residential will be from 17th-19th September.
  • And 'Local Leadership Cluster' gatherings with other participants who are serving God in your local area. These clusters will be facilitated by a group leader and will be a place for you to reflect on your own practice, unpack the weekend sessions and share the joys and challenges of Christian leadership together. These clusters will meet for the equivalent of three half dates per year, but the dates and times can be arranged to fir with the group.
The residential and local leadership clusters will be based around the themes of 'Identity, 'Skills' and 'Community' and you will be encouraged to explore:
  • The distinctive features of Christian leadership in your church and community.
  • The model of leadership that we observe in Jesus.
  • Different leadership styles and the key elements of building healthy teams.
  • How we can support one another in leadership and create support networks that encourage us to reflect on how we learn and keep us centred ion God.
  • What it looks like for us to lead in a way that is humble, Christ-centred and invests in those around us.
  • How we lead as part of the wider Baptist family, in a way that is Spirit-led, encourages creativity and embraces the vision and values of the Baptist Union.
The residential and leadership clusters will be worship-centred, interactive, thought-provoking and encouraging. We pray that they will become a safe-place fo you to deepen your identity in Christ, develop new leadership skills and build strong relationships with other leaders that will energise you!

EQUIP costs £800 for the 2 years and this includes the residentials and all meals. £400 is payable at the start of each year.  In some cases it may be appropriate for this costs to be shared by the participant and their local church.  SCBA have also set aside funds to support young adults joining this course where this is needed as we don't want anyone to miss out, so please do speak to your Regional Minister.
