SCBA Safeguarding Lead Role

Title:                                  Safeguarding Lead
Responsible to:                Designated Regional Minister
Salary:                               £8,326.80 per annum for 12 hours per week (FTE £27,456 / £13.20 per hour)
 
Main Purpose of Role:
To support the local church’s designated person for safeguarding in order to ensure good safeguarding practice in their church and pioneer missional activities across the SCBA churches
 
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Provide a first point of contact for advice with the local designated person for safeguarding when a safeguarding issue arises in a member church, whether child protection or adult at risk.
  • Offer advice and guidance on the application of the Baptist Union’s safeguarding policy (adopted by local churches) and local procedures at church level, including the involvement of statutory authorities as appropriate.
  • Offer on-going support to churches managing a safeguarding issue.
  • Oversee and manage safeguarding training programme for member churches, using the Baptist Union’s ’Excellence in Safeguarding’ training programme and materials (including offering training alongside a team of volunteer trainers) 
Previous experience of working within Baptist Churches/Associations would be advantageous.

The Southern Counties Baptist Association is a Christian charity and as such, it is an occupational requirement that the holder of this post is a committed Christian and in sympathy with the Baptist Declaration of Principle.

The appointment will be subject to an enhanced disclosure from the DBS.
 
Working Hours:
2 days a week (approximately 12 hours) worked flexibly in agreement with the Regional Minister Team Leads. This will entail a mix of hours during the working week: daytime, evening meetings and occasional weekends. Although the majority of the time you will work from home there will also be in-person meetings that you will expected to attend

The Church
Wycliffe Baptist Church is a vibrant evangelical community actively engaged in East Reading and beyond. Throughout the week, their facilities are bustling with activity, serving both their church family and a variety of other groups.  Join their Operations Team and help make their church building a warm, inviting and hospitable space for all.

The Role
- Setting up rooms and returning to default after use.
- Day to day management of the building systems.
- Maintain the buildings and grounds as a safe, clean space.
- Security of buildings and car parks.
- Providng users with equipment and resources.
- Working with the Operations Assistant in maintaining storage.

This is a part-time (33.5h p/w over 6 days), permanent role starting in February 2025. A job share option is available. The salary is £12.21 per hour.
